Regularly voted within the top ten wedding venues in the UK, the stunning Allerton Castle is an 18th Century Gothic castle set in 6 acres of grounds. Privately owned and beautifully restored Allerton Castle will make an amazing location for our one day wedding photography workshop and portfolio day.
With a bride and groom model we will be working around the castle interior and exterior as we demonstrate lighting and posing, makings use of the amazing architecture and surroundings including the impressive Great Hall, Staircase and Drawing Room. The castle is notoriously dark in areas and can be a real challenge to create wow without resorting to ultra high ISO and long slow shutters. Through practical hands on demonstrations I’ll show you how we select the area and match the lighting type to the image we want to create.
During our workshops we teach the methods of work we use on our wedding days with the same equipment. Our lighting set up doesn’t rely on external battery powered flash heads, we keep our lighting methods simple and fast working with speed lights. During the day we’ll be using flash on and off camera, video light and natural light teaching simple and easy to use techniques that work on real weddings.
The day is about practical hands on training with almost the whole day given aside for photography, following registration and brief introductions we’ll begin shooting, finishing off around 4.30 before a de-brief and questions. Our plans include covering the following topics.
Indoor – Using the impressive castle features we’ll look at using video light, flash and natural light as we shoot on the staircase, drawing room and the great hall. During the indoor shoot we’ll be working with bride alone and bride and groom, creating simple but stunning poses and images. We’ll also cover groom preparation images as I demonstrate my images I take during groom preparation, how we select the location and mange the light. The images below are all from Allerton Castle weddings featuring real bride and grooms using the same methods we’ll be teaching on the day.
Outdoor – Using flash on and off camera we’ll create big striking portraits that make fantastic wall art and big album images, I’ll explain and demonstrate my approach when shooting for the wedding album, techniques that can be used at any wedding. During the outdoor photography element we’ll look at how we include the architecture of the castle, what we look for when selecting locations and how we work with the light even on tricky lighting days.
Training and portfolio days are designed to help build your knowledge and confidence with real world advice and training that can be easily replicated on a wedding day.
